TKD Premiere: Launch of two electric Liebherr models

“Liebherr machines are known for their high quality, precise and powerful hydraulic systems, and low energy consumption. We aimed to preserve—and where possible, improve—these characteristics,” says Max Aerts, CEO of DENS.

Field tests confirm that goal has been achieved. Both machines can operate for around 10 hours on a fixed 280kWh battery.

Electrification

Electrifying compact machines is a major challenge due to limited space. DENS’ expertise in high energy density batteries proved essential. DENS is more than a supplier of mobile Powerhub battery systems with integrated DC chargers. Under the name DENS Powertrains, the company from Helmond also develops and supplies integrable batteries for construction machinery—including for Fundex and Relly. This experience was crucial, as was DENS’ service offering. W&H and DENS will jointly train service and maintenance technicians.

Efficiency

“For the electric Liebherr excavators, we developed a new battery pack from cell level up, so the 280kWh pack fits exactly within the existing curved contours of the upper structure,” explains Tijn Swinkels, CEO of DENS. The new electric drivetrain also powers the hydraulic system. W&H and DENS explored improvements here as well, electrifying auxiliary hydraulic functions with high-voltage components where possible. The result: maximum efficiency.

Safety First

Safety and certification were key priorities. DENS contributed expertise in battery energy density and EMC safety. As a result, both the A 913 and R 914 Compact are TÜV-tested, certified, and approved by the RDW.

To ensure safe and reliable charging, both the Liebherr A 913 and R 914 Compact are equipped with secure remote monitoring. This allows users to track performance and charging sessions remotely.
